What you are actually paying for

On NHL Shop's own spec lists, the two lines describe the crest, shoulder patches and lettering in identical words: sewn-down tackle twill with embroidery. From the stands they look the same. The extra $250.00 buys three things:

  • The on-ice cut. At size 50, the Authentic Pro chart lists 3.5 inches more chest than the Premium chart, and the same number is a letter size bigger.
  • Where it is made. The Authentic Pro is made in Canada with domestic and imported content; the Premium is imported.
  • The fabric grade. Both are 100% polyester, but the Authentic Pro is described as pro-grade performance fabric.

Buy the Premium if...

  • You will wear it to games, watch parties or around town.
  • You want a fit you can layer a T-shirt or light hoodie under without it looking baggy.
  • You want a player's name on the back: the Premium Player is $274.99, about half the price of the Authentic Pro Player. On NHLShop.ca some players cost C$383.99 instead of C$274.99.

Buy the Authentic Pro if...

  • You collect game-spec jerseys or want the same cut the team wears.
  • You play hockey and want a jersey that fits over pads.
  • You plan to frame it or get it signed.

Check your team first: NHL Shop listed a blank Authentic Pro for 25 of 32 clubs and a player-name version for 9.

What about kids?

Youth Premier jerseys are made by Outerstuff, not Fanatics, and are a simpler build: mesh body, interlock knit collar, embroidered twill logos, tackle twill name and numbers on player versions; no fight strap listed. They are $119.99 blank and $149.99 with a player's name and number.

Custom names and women's sizes

Neither NHL Shop nor NHLShop.ca offers your own name and number on a Remix jersey, and there is no women's Remix jersey. The choice is a blank jersey or a listed player, in men's or youth sizing.

Sizing

Because the cuts differ, a size 50 is an L in the Premium but an M in the Authentic Pro. The Hometown Remix size guide has both charts.

Authentic Pro vs Premium FAQ

What is the difference between Authentic Pro and Premium?

Fit, fabric grade, where it is made and price. Authentic Pro is the on-ice cut, oversized to go over pads, made in Canada, and costs $474.99 blank. Premium is relaxed rather than oversized, imported, and costs $224.99 blank. NHL Shop describes the crest, patches and lettering on both in the same words.

Is the Authentic Pro worth the extra money?

It is worth it if you collect jerseys, play in one, or want exactly what the players wear. For wearing to games or around town, the Premium has the same stitched look and costs $250.00 less.

Do Premium jerseys have stitched numbers?

Yes. Player versions of the Premium have sewn-down tackle twill names and numbers, and the crest and shoulder patches are tackle twill with embroidery, not screen printing.

Why can I not find an Authentic Pro for my team?

NHL Shop listed a blank Authentic Pro for 25 clubs and a player-name Authentic Pro for only 9 when we checked, so many teams have sold out or never stocked it. Each team page shows what was listed for that club, and the club's own store is worth checking.
